1. Development Programme

Hospital of God like any charity has to change and develop in order to meet new needs and standards as they arise. It has been decided by Trustees to embark upon a major redevelopment of our services and facilities in Greatham over the next few years.

3. New Almshouses

The Hospital of God opened 15 new almshouses on 19th July 2007. This is the final phase of the redevelopment plan that started in 2001 and marks the completion of the modernisation of the charity's facilities in Greatham.

Seen in the picture is the Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove, Dean of Durham Cathedral blessing the new almshouses with Father Richard Collins, Chaplain and Mrs Judyth Thomas, charity chairman.

The new apartments and bungalows are for older people who are less well off and who want to live in a semi-sheltered environment. The charity provides a part time warden service and an emergency call system.

For further information on almshouses contact Mrs Sandra Twist on 01429 870247 or e mail sandra.twist@hospitalofgod.org.uk.

4. Future Developments

The Trustees of the charity are now examining future developments in housing services for older people. These may be located in Greatham or other areas in the north east. We are aiming to provide specialised housing for older people with learning difficulties or dementia and resources for families and carers who have to deal with these problems.

For more information please contact David Granath, Director at the Estate Office.
