Fox Almshouses Norton

The Fox Almshouses are situated in their own grounds set back from Norton High Street. Residents find the proximity of Norton High Street and all its facilities particularly convenient
The almshouses were built by a local brewer John Henry Fox in 1897 for the benefit of older people. There are 14 almshouses, all built in a cottage style. 13 of the almshouses have one bedroom and the remaining property has two bedrooms.

The Hospital of God took over these almshouses in 2008 and has embarked on a programme of improvements, putting in new heating systems, kitchens and bathrooms.

Each almshouse is connected to the local authority emergency warden call system.

Fox Almshouse residents occupy their homes under a licence to occupy and pay a contribution to the running and maintenance costs. This is called the weekly Maintenance Contribution and is paid instead of rent. The current maintenance contribution is £79 to £93 per week.

Included within this contribution is all maintenance, water rates and the emergency warden call service.

Subject to an individual’s financial circumstances they may qualify for housing allowance from the local authority.

Eligibility

The Fox Almshouses are for people over 60 years of age with modest financial needs.

We assess the needs of applicants and try to match them to the property. We also take into account family, social and financial circumstances.
